Historical fiction
In the tradition of Gone with the Wind and Wuthering Heights, the books listed on this site contain a romance (or romances) set in the past, but, for one reason or another, the novels are not normally classified as historical romances. These stories' lovers may not always live happily ever after. The hero or heroine may be involved in more than one relationship. And the historical setting definitely plays a substantial role in the plot (these are not merely modern characters dressed in old-fashioned clothing).
